Taking Notes & Tracking Progress

The site lets you track your progress and take notes on content and on media. These features were originally added for the educational content, so lessons are the best example. On a lesson you'll see a set of controls: a status with three states - not started, in progress, or finished - and a little notepad icon for writing notes, with some basic formatting and a save button.

A lot of content also has a video attached, and the video is tracked as its own separate thing underneath the content. It has the same status and its own note - the icon looks filled in when a note exists. When you play the video it moves to in progress, and the progress stays in sync between the video and the content, but the notes stay separate.

Notes and progress on media are handled through the media library, in addition to the videos that live on content. It's the same interface whether you're looking at a document or a video - you can track your progress and take notes on the law books, like American Jurisprudence, right there. And because content and media are tracked separately, a note you made on a video shows up when you view that video in the library.

Your progress shows up as icons in a lot of places - in the media library, where you can also filter by status, and in related-content listings next to lessons and FAQs. One thing to know: course completion isn't something you set yourself; it's calculated automatically from the lessons you've finished inside. These icons are handy when you're moving around the site or trying to work through everything on a particular topic.

There are also two "command center" pages in your user account area - content engagement and media engagement. Both show a sortable table: status, name, type (or format, for media), whether you have notes, when the item was last updated, and when you last engaged it. It defaults to sorting by what you touched most recently, you can sort by any column, and you can hover a row to see the note you took.

Each page has a summary split in two. On the left is your current status - how many items are reset, in progress, and finished right now, matching the table. On the right is the all-time status, which is cumulative: if you finished a lesson and then reset it, it tallies in both finished and reset. It's a way to see whether you've been through something multiple times versus where you generally stand as you've learned. The media summary works the same way, with format - documents and videos - instead of content type, and it covers both the media library and videos attached to lessons and documents.
