If I need to hire an attorney, what should I look for?
One of the main issues we see with people that hire an attorney is the client's lack of knowledge which turns into the client not directing their attorney. The attorney works for the client not the other way around. They are the client's agent/representative. The fact that an attorney went to law school and has passed the bar exam does not make him or her good at their job. Attributes to look for in an attorney are:
- willingness to listen to what the client wants to see happen and creatively creates a strategy for it
- excellent with the rules of court procedure and rules of evidence
- has a strong history of winning cases
We have found that attorneys tend to be lazy and not very creative. We have seen cases where the client does more work than the attorney to ensure the success of their legal claim. The more a client knows about the laws particular to their case, court rules of procedure, and evidence, the more the client can manage and direct their attorney well.
