Insufficient Response by Debt Collector - Canada
The Insufficient Response / Dispute Continued letter is used after you have disputed an alleged unsecured debt and the collector replies with paperwork that does not establish who currently owns the debt, the collector’s authority to collect, or a complete supportable accounting of the amount claimed. It preserves the record by stating that the response is insufficient, listing the missing elements (ownership, account-level transfer proof, governing terms, and itemization), and re‑asserting the dispute so your file remains clear and consistent if collection activity continues, credit reporting issues arise, or proceedings are threatened.
Instructions:
- Use this letter only after you have already sent a debt dispute/proof request and received a response you believe is incomplete or generic.
- Review the generated letter for accuracy against what you received and your own records before sending.
- Print the letter and handwrite the last four (or full) account number(s) in the designated account field(s) if needed for clarity.
- Attach copies of the response you received (optional) and keep a complete copy of everything you send.
- Sign the letter in Blue ink, make a color copy to send and keep your mailing proof and tracking information with your file.
- Mail using Canada Post Registered Mail or Xpresspost (signature option) so you have delivery tracking and confirmation.
Log the mailing date, tracking number, and any subsequent responses to maintain an organized record.
